Abstract

 Tourism has strategic characteristics and remain in a pole position of contemporary economic activity. Tourism constitutes an effective tool for achieving sustainable development, through the improvement of economic growth and society development, as well as the protection of the environment on the horizon of strong and sustained economic growth. Tourism help to satisfy the needs of current and future generations. In order to achieve sustainable tourism development style, tasks must be shared between all actors activating in this field and including the public sector, private tourism sector institutions, tourists or local communities. Guelma is one of the Algerian wilayas, with high tourism potential, sufficient to make an exceptional touristic pole in this region. This wilaya have mineral fountains and thermal stations, natural views, archaeological and historical sites. Guelma represent a microcosm of the State and a mirror of the sector at the national level, even this high touristic potential there is a noticeable weakness in the performance. Drastic measures and high efforts must be applicated to value this high potential in the framework of sustainable development. Our study is focused mainly on a field work, with statistical analyzes to diagnose and analyzing the impact of sustainability dimensions of tourism activity in making Guelma a sustainable tourist destination from the point of view of both tourists and local residents. A number of recommendations, on the base of this study, have been suggested to improve the touristic activity in this region. Like adoption of the most important scientific plan for the development and management of tourism in the region to exclude creation, emergence or exacerbation of social, economic and environmental problems that may succeed to tourism development.
